Montana Safe Schools Center

Established in the fall of 2006, the Montana Safe Schools Center (MSSC) provides extensive outreach, training, research and professional development services to schools and communities across Montana and throughout the United States.

MSSC Training Topics:

  • Professional development for School Resource Officers (SROs)
  • Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) training
  • Bully prevention programs (Steps to Respect, etc,.)
  • Suicide prevention gatekeeper training programs (QPR, ASIST, etc,.)
  • School safety and climate assessments
  • Internet safety training
  • School emergency response and crisis management training and exercise facilitation
  • Conflict resolution and peer mediation initiatives
  • Crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and hazard/vulnerability assessments
  • Classroom management, special education, and behavioral consultations

The MSSC was endorsed by Montana's Superintendent of Public Instruction, Linda McCullough in 2005 and approved by the Montana University System Board of Regents in 2006.  However, our organization has been working on numerous school safety grants and initiatives since 1999.

Program collaboration has occurred for and with many agencies including: Montana Office of Public Instruction's Montana Behavioral Initiative, the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools (OSDFS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) office.

What do MSSC trainings and consultations cost?

MSSC is entirely funded through grants and consultation fees.  Our rates are negotiable based on the needs and resources of the school as well as appropriate travel costs.  In most cases, we are able to partner with schools through existing grants (often with cost-sharing) or in future grant seeking.

No Montana school has been denided requested MSSC service due to funding limitations. Let's discuss how we may assist you and your school community.
